Boot wont stay locked

Just discovered that the boot on my 2006 estate unlocks if you pull on the handle to open it, so basically I cant lock the boot as it will open by a pull of the handle.
Update:- Just been out and checked, and you cannot hear any sort of clunk when locking , so maybe its not locking at all? What are the likely causes? and where should I start first? Cheers.
