b6 Passat front washwipe not working

Post by commonbeing » Sun Apr 22, 2018 11:07 am

Hi,

My b6 has developed a problem with the front windscreen washwipe. The wipers work as normal and the rear wiper squirts and wipes as normal, but the front washwipe doesn't do anything, no motor sound and the wipers don't go through the wipe cycle.

Has anyone seen this before? Is the front washwipe cycle program on a separate fuse/relay to the rear, or could it be the switch on the stork?

Any help or direction to this problem already addressed on this forum would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Update
Just got in the car today and the front wipers don't work at all now, the rear wiper/squirter works as normal
Please help

Check and properly test all the fuses first.

Ok update, I've just realised that the wipers only work when the car is moving (madness)
The washwipe still doesn't work though.

I had a problem with my bonnet catch mechanism not shutting the other day and had to remove and clean it to get it working correctly, the bonnet switch is on there, could it be a problem with that switch? there is no dash light saying that the bonnet is open though?

Are there two separate pumps? one for front and one for rear washers? or just one pump?

Bonnet catch switch is a well known cause. If you tried to wipe the windscreen with the bonnet open, the blades might foul the bonnet, so the Passat's system is set up to stop you from doing it. Google is your friend.

It's been a while since I sold my B6, but I don't remember ever seeing a "bonnet open" light on the dash. I can't explain why the wipers still work when the car's running, though. Some kind of speed-rated override, perhaps?

Yes I found someone with a touran has had a similar problem, on the 3rd or 4th page of Google, nothing specifically passat related to this anywhere I can find though. I thought it would have been on here it anywhere, but not that I can see.

Same chassis, well platform, same electronics more or less so the info should be valid at some level.
