I've had the B6 for four years now - had the cambelt done when I bought the car on 100k because, despite inheriting loads of receipts, I couldn't guarantee that the cambelt had been done previously.
So 4 years and 70k later I decided to do it myself this time. Ordered a Contitech cambelt and waterpump kit from Mister Auto and largely just followed the steps in this really good video: https://youtu.be/OffyDbc3jgA. I didn't disconnect the fuel filter as it's easy enough to move it to one side instead.
The only additional tool I needed was a camshaft sprocket holder, and I bought this one: http://r.ebay.com/FCq45k which is excellent, well up to the job. I had a standard crankshaft/camshaft locking kit previously from when I did the balance shaft / oil pump drive key a couple of years ago.
No issues doing the cambelt, it's not rocket science, but I did find replacing the lower guide roller stud a little tricky. Removing the old stud was easy but getting the new one started on the thread correctly took longer than expected. It has to be aligned exactly - just a little patience required!
Test run done, a few miles on the clock and it's all ok so far!
Job done, should be good for another 4 years. I plan on keeping the car a while yet as I've changed so much it's now like Trigger's broom https://youtu.be/HisD_pqlRHQ. Will be joining the 200k club soon.
