Orange Engine light? noise

Hi, my 170 passat highline has got the ornage engine light on still seems to be running fine, although i have notice a noice at low speed like a grinding noise. Is it still ok to use the car i have checked under the bonnet nothing obvious it has done 148k. Kind regards
