terminal 15 problem

Hi,
my Passat BKP has been sitting up for a few days and I just went to start it and it ran, when I came back the engine was shut down. I tried to restart it but the ignition wouldn't come on, although the steering locked/unlocked, radio and HVAC came on. apart from the odometer there is no life in the clocks except for the flashing steering light after a while and the gong.
It wont crank either, i plugged it into VCDS and it says there is a fault with terminal 15 and its lost communications with the central electrics, steering etc.
Weird that it was running but just stopped, I wasn't in it at the time though, just came back to find it had stopped.
I'm gonna try after a while as i disconnected the battery. the fuses all seem ok too.
