BKP engine timing tool query

Hi,
Does anyone know which of the timing tools I need to use for the crankshaft or where it locks at 1 o clock or 12 o clock, the kits usually come with both I know but has anyone timed theirs and saw roughly what position it locks in, IIRC one o clock?
Will only the correct crank tool fit too,as one is for a bored and engine and the other is for a non bored engine?
