cluster upgrade query

Hi guys,
Ive got my 05 passat with the white MFA clocks from a 2009, I have the J revision CAN gateway in my car.
Can someone confirm if its possible to change the red clocks to the white clocks with only the cluster, conversion cable and trims and it will work or do you need a minimum revision gateway?
like i say mine is the J revision as I put in an RCD510 ages ago then went with the white clocks afterwards so im not sure
on a stock non nav passat like an 06 is there any VCDS coding needed for the car?
