(EPB) park brake cought you out? quick fix & replace for £36.99

Post by COT51E »

B6 EPB TRW (Electric park brake) £36.99 ebay, took 8 days to arrive but saved £££
For the past week i've had the flashing dash and audible warning. I managed to free the caliper so i could get to and from work. DON'T GET COUGHT OUT, YOU ONLY NEED A T30 & T50 TORX TOOL.

Easy diy fix without the need for vcds

If your brake has locked on and cant move do this:
1, jack car and chock front wheels
2, remove wheel
3, remove x2 torx bolts T30 each side of motor
4, pull motor from caliper and unclip plug
5, Unwind plate (clockwise) to free pads with T50 torx where the drive cog fits then tap piston from the pad side to free up
6, refit motor to get mobile but don't use. park in gear.

New part arrival: prep car as above.
1, make sure plate where motor fits T50 is wound out (clockwise) till stops.
2, replace dust seal if required 47mm x 3mm
3, plug motor in and locate unit into the T50 hole then tighten x2 T30 torx
4, make car safe to drive.

Dash & brake light were still lit on ignition, operated switch with foot brake and lights went out along with audible over 10mph. Motor resets itself due to winding out the T50 plate.

Total time 40mins (My diy repair of the motor lasted 4yrs)
