Does my car have hazards come on with emergency braking ?

Aren't the Hazard warning lights on my 2007 B6 sport 170 Manual Estate supposed to come on when severe hard braking on Motorways or at speeds in excess of 80 mph ?

I had a scary moment on the M40 recently, when I had to anchor up rather quickly to the point that the yellow ESP light came on as it was damp; needless to say she remained dead straight and I kept her in full control quite what made the C class Merc in front anchor up so quickly I don't know but it was dark at the time.

I thought that the hazards are supposed to come on so that hopefully I don't get rammed up the jacksy.

So are the UK models supposed to flash automaticaly ?
