Oil consumption

Hi I have a 2010 2.0 Automatic. The car has about 60,000 genuine miles on the clock. The car runs and feels great but it takes a ltr of oil every 500 miles and aprox every 1000 miles I start to get an engine problem and the management light comes on. After paying the garage the first time to solve this problem, which was changing the plugs, I now do this myself. The plugs get badly coked, especially the 3rd cylinder plug, and i have been told the engine is worn and it cant be repaired, only replaced. I was told this 1 year ago, but have persisted with the car, that has got no worse and still runs great. Is there anything I Can do other than replacing the engine to reduce the oil usage and replacing the plugs so often?
