Non franchise servicing

Hi Guys.

I was in the trade all my life and always told people they should use franchise dealers for service. Now I am on the other side of the desk!

Is there any reason why I can't use my local guy (who has regularly serviced my other car) now that my beloved Passat is out of warranty? This service is oil change and pollen filter.

I know he brings in specialists for things like cam belts

Also - is it right in todays world that brake fluid needs changing like my franchise dealer says?

Cam belt - would my 2.0 Diesel 2013 have a belt or chain?
