car insurance on the diesels

anyone else recently had there insurance hike up?
just had my renewal and its jumped from £359-£629 and cheapest I can get it on comparison sites is £538 yet petrol versions are coming in at the £400 mark
ive had my licence 20 years 10+ year no claims.
surely insurance companies aint putting price up because of diesel gate
