Passat CC boot trim cracked

This week the black trim piece at the top of the boot lid just after the rear window cracked all the way through, I expect due to heat (on holiday in Italy, although I gather it's been hot in UK as well!). My car is about 4 years old, has anyone had the same thing happen? What was dealer response? I see the issue was reported on some other vw forums, with mention that the trim has now been changed from platform to metal.
