Loud rattle when lifting clutch pedal?

Hi all,

I have got a b6 2.0tdi 140 se which has now covered 170k miles but still drives really well, had it for about a year and love it!

Only main issue I have is that sometimes when you lift the clutch pedal in neutral there is a horrendous rattle from the bottom area of the engine. If you don't lift it all the way up and hold it half way the noise continues, if you lift it all the way, or put it back down it stops. Doesn't happen in gear but sometimes can be heard slightly when cold and the pedal is fully up.

The clutch feels fine though, as do gear changes. I had a mondeo before that had very noisy DMF issues - could this be the same here?
