Cigarette lighter light.

Was in the car the other night and my passenger decided to press the trim which exposes the ashtray and cigarette lighter. Only then after having the car 18 months have I realised it's not lite up. I don't smoke so there's never a reason to leave the flip lid up but having OCD it's now bugging me lol. Is it suppose to light up or not?
The 12V socket works because I use this to inflate tyre pressure from. So is there a way to check if the bulbs gone? Or can someone with a B6 09 plate check if theirs lights up or not.
