Ashtray & Gear Lever Surround Trim Removal

Post by 64 SPLIT » Fri Sep 13, 2013 7:23 am

Does anyone know how to remove the metal trim around the gear level and the ashtray lid (the sections that are the same finish as the heater & stereo surround)?
There was a link to a file on VW Vortex for retro-fitting auto-hold but the link says the file has been removed.
Don't wanna risk snapping anything!

Gear lever surround first!.... Open ashtray and then you can get you fingers under the front of the gear surround, then its just a case of tugging hard (Not the best choice of words :hyst )...
once you have the whole surround out, you can remove the chrome bit and the buttons from underneath (they all just clip in!
The ash tray Next (much easier).... Pull the 'ASH' bit of the ashtrtay out and there is 2 T20/25 (cant remember which) Torx screw underneath.... Unscrew these and it will pull out easy!!

excellent thanks! :-bd
I tried removing it last night (albeit in the dark which probably doesn't help!) but gave up cos I didn't wanna bust the gaitor.

Pull the front upwards.... Once it's started I use a screwdriver wrapped with a rag to lever it carefully up on each side
