Cracked Plastic on 2007 Passat Instrument Cluster

Hi,

I am looking to buy my first B6 Passat and on a recent viewing I noticed that the instrument cluster dials to be all cracked! I am not sure how this can happen.

I have searched Google and this does not seem to be a common fault. Have I missed something?

Checking ebay etc I can get a replacement cluster fairly cheap but I fear that it will need some config (ECU) for the car to accept it i.e. it wont be a direct plug and play replacement. Speaking to the local VW dealer they quoted £500+!

Everything else seems ok with the car. Is there a way round this (other than obviously cutting the price which I am doing) or should I just walk away?
