Towbar wiring

Wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. I want to fit a towbar to my estate - the easy bit - and am unsure about electrics. Can I use a bypass relay or do I need to buy one of those expensive dedicated wiring kits?
I won't be pulling a caravan just a small trailer with a 500kg payload, so won't need twin only single electrics.
I already have a bypass kit but if I need to buy a dedicated kit can you recommend a supplier who doesn't want both arms and legs.....
