Parking brake problem/major service prices

Post by rat840771 »

Hi

I got in my car today and I had a warning come up saying Parking brake problem, see owners manual and the Parking symbol stayed lit.

I removed the key restarted and all went away, Interestingly on the last service (10,000miles ago) the brake fluid was changed, I opened the bonnet and inspected the level and the cap was completely loose. Would this cause the fault to happen as the sensor was positioned higher? I think it is poor of VW to not do up the cap as it could not of worked loose!

This brings me onto my next question. I need a major 72k service and VW have quoted £259 including Vat for a 10k major service. I went to an Audi/VW specialist and they have quoted £250 plus vat for the same service and said that VW do not even check the air filters, remove wheels and service brakes and simply shine a torch thru the wheels. The speciailist would change all filters on every service and allocate 3.5hrs to the service hence the price. They also showed me a picture of an air filter full of poo where VW did not inspect the filters even though they did not need to be changed! You would have thought that would have at least inspected and blown them out with air on minor schedules.

So where should I go- Keep VW service record or get a better service for more money. Also specialist stated that a long life service would be same price but isn't the Oil more expensive on long life? They also questioned why mine wasn't on long life.

Thank for your help!
