good luck - I cannot see you will need it as the warranty does to me seem pretty clear on what it is suppose to cover...

Feel free to use my case if this helps as VW basically admitted the fault and sorted the bonnet after a few weeks of being shown up (took the dealer two goes to get it right aswell!)

I am now driving a 2 year old mk7 golf GT and very happy with it - no sign of any corrosion as yet!

Guys, i put a deposit down on a 2006 1.6 FSI on Sunday - bought from a dealer, collecting THIS sunday, i noticed the number plate light rust, and pointed out to the dealer, he just said its a common fault, and his A4 has it, blah blah blah.

Im getting the car pretty cheap, £3,200 with FSH, and all in all its in good nick.

Do you think i should proceed with purchase?

Couldn't see any other rust...

What dealer? If it's a VW dealership then all used cars have to be to VW's (high) standard and come with a one year warranty. So they can't sell a used with bubbling rust on it.
The only get-out for warranty rust work, which must be presented to a VW dealership with paintshop, is if there's been an attempted repair not done by a VW paintshop before. Yes, anti-corrosion warranty follows car not keeper.
So if this dealer has allowed your diagnostic test (other thread) and is a VW dealer then yes, they have to do the rust repair prior to or in sales agreement. Buy if you're otherwise happy.

If it's not a VW dealer then check VIN with any dealer to see whether there's any recalls outstanding and whether there's been any warranty paint job recorded. And check the bubbling to see whether there's any evidence of previous touch up. £3,200 does sound cheap for an '06MY B6. Perhaps coz of smallest available petrol engine then? Miles?

Thank you, I appreciate that. Scary really as have been seeing quite a few MK2 Skoda Octavia's starting to show signs of rust in similar places as the Passat's.

My 07 touran which has already had the boot repaired now has rust under each front door handle at the front!

Taken in and had the usual stuff taken - fingers crossed I don't have the fight I had last time!

Touran is going to be fixed without me paying anything - I think its possibly to do with the fact I will cause them trouble and the rust is very minor - so should not need spraying :)

Mines going into the local dealers on Tuesday morning for an inspection....

My boot lid is the worst bit on the car!!! The rest of it actually looks ok (scratch on 1/4 fixed before I bought it - will this make any problems with the rust claim??)

Thank you to everyone for the help and advice over the last 8/9 months. Can't go into any details but my claim has been settled.

I won't be back in a Passat again and mine will be stripped and the shell scrapped shortly.

Good luck to everyone else that's going through the same thing.

If they've made you sign a non-disclosure agreement to pay out then that's a new twist.

Why are you scrapping?

I had mine done for free last year. Just within the 10 years.

Sorry to hijack, however my 2010/2011 B7 is rusting in the exact same spot, and actually made the wiring for the number plate lights rust through and stop working .. would I have a case against VW?
