We've got a Passat B6 TDI (07) that's having problems starting from warm/hot. It starts first time from cold.
The exact issue is:
- run car for a short distance, so engine is over 75 (or so) degrees
- Turn engine off for 10-20 mins
- Try to restart. Starter motor will turn over but the engine does not catch. (icons showing on dash - left hand side - yellow engine icon and red battery icon)
- If you give the engine some gas engine will start to catch for 1 or 2 rotations but not start
- As soon as engine temperature drops below 60 degrees or so will start first time.
Reading a few threads it seems to effect B6 and older Passats and Golfs. Suggested solutions range from coolant temperature sensor, new starter motor or reprogramming the ECU, so the ECU doesn't inject diesel if the starter
spins the engine at less than 200rpm when warm.
Thanks for your help
