we have had an intermittent bulb failure warning on for a few weeks and then yesterday it stayed on, another quick look around showed the number plate not illuminated. closer inspection with the door half up showed slight corrosion around the lights so I whipped them out to find 2 good bulbs but also corrosion on the contact fingers where they slide in.
so a bit of wet n dry to clean the light contacts and a small file on the contacts in the rear door and problem solved. an easy repair but not a well designed item I guess a dealer would fit 2 new units if you took it in as a fault.
