ESP OFF or ON whats the difference??

Post by Crackman 619 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 5:24 pm

Sorry for being an idiot but im just wandering what is the difference between turning off the ESP and leaving it on?

I tried both and the car feels the same to me? or maybe im not driving enthusiastically enough?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

(bet Steve will answer first lol)

Hi mate

Had mine slide wide on a round about one day in the rain. ESP light falshed, controlled the power going to the front wheels and pulled itself back in line. It was able to think quicker than I could!

Also when it's on it will stop the wheels from spinning if you floor it off the line.

i got stuck in the snow last xmas. i was trying to get up a shallow hill to m,y sisters house. the car wouldn't budge even with boards under the wheels. i tried every trick imaginable. i then turned off the traction control, booted it in 2nd and she flew up the hill.

I had a similar experience in the snow. Car was caught on a hill with lots of big nasty curbs around me. Kept tryin with the ESP on and it kept creeping backwards and sidewards.

Turned it off, put it in second and it had no problem in moving away.

yeah ihad an issue in snow too, so turned it off..

big difference will be between wet n dry tho, try booting it round a roundabout in the dry and keep going faster n faster just when you think it will loose grip, the ESP kicks in and sorts it out.. so do same test in wet and you'll find it happensmuch much quicker.

turn it off and drive same, then make sure your insured fully comp and have your insurance details with you as that system can react faster than you can

in simple turns, leave it turned it on or you'll be sorry

ESP - electronic stabilty programme - it does what it says!!

ASP is all have, only controls traction an sometimes helps when you slide out but nothing as noticeable as ESP

I think there's a slight difference in 2nd sometimes 3rd but I think its just because the power isn't been taken away because of a slight spin.

In all the snow we had last winter i turned the esp off, it felt really weird with the car adjusting the power and stuff, so turned it of and it drove far better, although esp is good in the rain etc.
