2006 Passat Tdi Glow Plug Light on - Car Won't start

Can anyone cast there professional opinion over a current problem I am experiencing with my 2006 Passat 140 tdi. Over the last few weeks when I attempt to start the car pushing key in dash it just turns over & wont fire. The glow plug light flashes with the text 'engine fault workshop' After a couple of attempts pulling fob out & pushing back in the car turns over and starts with no fault showing. Any ideas fellas? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice
