B6 Aircon Cooling Fan Problem

Hello All,

New to the forum and have a quey hopefully you knowledgeable chaps can help with.....

I have a B6 Passat Estate 2.0TDI on a 55 plate and have had the car from new. During the last summer I noticed a fan noise that was constantly cycling on and off perhaps every 20 seconds or so - the fan seems to cool the aircon radiator (turning aircon off turns fan off). Decided to have the aircon serviced and refridgerant replaced. Garage reported that all was ok and that fan was coming on (correctly) when the refridgerant pressure reached a certain point. Cooling fan then cools the refridgerant (and reduces pressure) then fan switches off.
This all sounds logical except I don't remember this being like this from new. Furthermore, even now (cold frosty weather) the fan still comes on which doesn't seem right at all. I'm pretty close to taking into a VAG dealer - something I don't do lightly (the cost!) but would love to try and diagnose myself......

Any ideas????
