DSG driving

Post by kris25 »

I've had my B6 SE for a month or so now.

It's a 06 with 16k on the clock, 2.0 TDi with DSG gearbox.

It's my first auto, but i find it responsive and good driving - may just need a quick kickdown now and then -but always seems to deliver.

In general, the DSG gearbox is great, smooth, well spaced gears and seems to well sense what you want from it.

About a week ago, mine started to make what sounded like a little 'chirp' sound when moving from 2-3 in auto.
This now sounds a bit more like a 'mesh' - has anyone experienced the same?
Thiink i'll get it in to VW asap to be looked over.

Also, for the more technically minded, what is best for the gearbox in terms of wear in the following situation ? -
Say, you are stuck in traffic, for 2-3 mins... is it better to stay in 'D' or move to 'N' and hold it on the brake ?
Just intrigued, i guess the gearbox goes into a sort of passive-ready mode if you are stopped for any length of time on the brake ?

Thanks for any know-how on this, kris :D
