Wiper scratches on fancy windscreen

I bought a nice new 59 plate Passat to replace mine and the worst problem appears to be the front windscreen.

The windscreen has rather wide wiper scratch marks that are not very deep but still very annoying. The car has almost every option ticked so we have almost auto everything including rear view mirror, lights, and heating wires for defogging. I gather the like-for-like replacement would be expensive so would polishing work well enough to give me clear glass back?
Furthermore, I am getting second thoughts on this heated windscreen. I can clearly see all the wiring and it is already driving me nuts. Would it be nutty to replace it with something "not as sophisticated"?

And what are my chances to use insurance (aviva) and avoid getting claim or any major price hikes?
