2.0l TDi 170 - engine retard downhill under acceleration?

Hi. Any one else experienced this?

I'm usually commuting on fairly flat and uninteresting roads and am happy with how the car performs.

I was forced to detour the other day onto a road I used to thrash my old Civic split hatch on......happy days.

I'm just getting back into remembering the road and attempting to accelerate going down a moderate to steep slope, when the car seems to stutter under acceleration/ engine brake. This wasn't an isolated incident and repeated itself when accelerating downhill on similar steeper slopes..........with the car though performing as usual on the flatter and shallower slopes.

Also, no lights illuminated on the dash either during or after these events occurring.

Any insight would be really appreciated.
