I'm sure you guys heard this a million times. sorry to repeat. Today I was stuck in traffic and I wanted to turn the car around so I try do a 3 point turn and when I put it into 'R' couple of sound, then the car didn't move. I put it in D and it moves forward but doesn't go in Reverse. In my dash the gear selector just disappeared (where it shows D1,D2,R,P,etc), it was just blank. The reverse light was on but the car didn't go back.
Before this when I change from DRIVE to REVERSE, there's couple of knocking sound and it goes into reverse and vise versa. Then while the car is moving and I come to a stop, the car makes a knocking sound and VIBRATES and goes into D1.
After I got stuck and the car didn't reverse at all, I turned the engine off and turned it back on couple of times, it started going into gear but with same knocking sound. When I put it into Reverse it takes like 2-3 seconds to go in reverse.
Is this ECU or the actual gearbox?
How much do they normally cost? new ,used or reconditioned?
