Awfull MPG from 140BHP Estate manual

Post by Hadhamvw »

I have recently bought a 2010 140bhp 6 speed manual estate with 20,000 miles on it. So far, so good. I was expecting similar mpg to my previous VW which was a 130 bhp manual saloon, and was brilliant averaging 50+ mpg on mixed driving and speeds up to 80mph ish on motorways. I couldn't fault it.
This new car struggles to make 45 mpg in exactly the same conditions and I'm not happy at all. In fact tonight I came home the usual way and it showed 40.1 average.

I've done 2 brim tests and both came out 44 average over 650 miles.

I don't drive it hard at all and usually stay under 2500 rpm.

It also seems to take about 10 miles for the oil / engine to come up to temp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
