Clock spring noisey

Hi
I have a noisey clock spring on my passat I thought I would just replace it, however the one for my car is on back order and has been since January with no indication on when it will be available.
I wondered if anyone has any success in repairing them ? my worry is it fails and I have an air bag fault that would be an MOT fail
