ABS (and other) lights on dashboard

Post by Fffil »

A short while ago (few weeks, maybe a month or two) I had an instance where my stability control warning light came on, then shortly after (few mins / miles?) went off again. I put it down to spurious activity. Happened a couple more times and now it is on permanently with a few other lights, so I now have 4 lights, 2 on the left cluster and 2 on the right. Steering wheel and brakes on the left, stability and ABS on the right, all orange and they are the only lights illuminated once the 'self check' has finished and when driving along.

I have no stop start working, no auto hold working, I haven't 'exercised' the brakes to see if the ABS works and the 'handbrake' seems to be able to be removed / taken off without my foot being on the foot brake. Previous to these lights - all systems worked as expected.

I've borrowed a friends VCDS, but it is only V15.7.1 and it doesn't have all of the 'codes' or modules to read all of the car. It has, however, reset the ABS fault codes, but they come straight back again. They indicate a right rear sensor (OSR) so I've bought a new one and changed that out - no change (yes codes again reset via VCDS). I've continuity checked the wiring from sensor plug to ABS pump plug, both lines check out fine (pins 10 and 11 on the ABS plug). Using 'live data' from VCDS, I can get an indication of wheel rotation from the OSF and NSR wheels when rotated (didn't try NSF), but nothing from the OSR. When spinning the wheels by hand and getting a 'speed' readout on VCDS, I also got errors - only the OSF recorded - see attached spreadsheet - is this 'normal' or does it still point to the ABS pump module?

My thinking, is that when all wheels are stationary, there is no pulsing of the Hall effect sensors, so no output from one is the same as no output from another. Only when the wheels rotate, would you expect an 'output', thus I'm disregarding the magnetic (?) ring that the sensor reads from and heading more towards the ABS pump electronics (which I've sprayed with Servisol in case there was a dirty pin).

Am I heading in the right direction by looking to swap out the ABS pump electronics module? Anyone local to Newent, Glos, that has a more up to date VCDS that they are willing to let me try (at your premises if you are not happy to lend it to me) please?

Oh and how do I 'successfully' do a search on here for 'ABS Pump' when ABS is too short a term to search for???
Pic attached but not a good one of the left hand side lights - it's still going through the self test which is why there are more lights on and the LHS brake one is red.
