Passat CC Running Cool

Post by passatpower » Wed Mar 13, 2019 7:57 pm

Hi Guys

I have recently purchased a passat cc 2.0 tdi 170 DSG 2012 61reg

Problem I have is the temperature runs cool it never really hits hits 90 degrees and the temp needle floats around 70 degrees

I have read about a DSG Thermostat near the battery housing that resolves the issue when replaced

Looking at another forum via a google search I visted my local VW dealership gave them a part number is 1K0121113A and told them I need this thermostat for my vehicle

I was told that my car doesnt have this? So I am stuck and would really appreciate someones help on this

I have the exact same issue with a 2005 Tdi B5.5. Getting an error that says intermittent engine temperature sensor and it reports low at 75 degrees C on a Foxwell VAG reader.

Going to replace the temperature sensor first, ordered a new CTS 4 pin sensor. Easier job is to replace the sensor first, then see if this changes anything (it is at back of engine by firewall).

Have also ordered a new thermostat kit - housing and o-ring with the bolts - U.S. company named ECS tuning sells the kits (I am USA based).

If no change, will do the thermostat second. It is (on the US vehicle) below the alternator bracket near front left side of engine and a bit of a pain to reach.

The parts ordered are:

Thermostat kit (sorry don't have individual P/N's)
ECS Part # ES#2966379

ECS Tuning Kit Contents
Description Brand Qty
Thermostat - 87°C Vaico - 1
Allen/Hex Bolt - Genuine Volkswagen Audi - 2
Thermostat Housing URO - 1
Thermostat O-Ring - Febi - 1

Will update once the job is done. Cheers.

I take it you have changed the main thermostat and temp sender.
Did you use genuine parts.
