Fuel measured by the crazy way?

First of all, I would like to say hello to all of you guys from Dorset!
Newbie with VW Passat B7, came from SAAB 9-3 (amazing car BTW...). Now I'm facing some crazy thinks I have no idea what's wrong about so I would like to ask you guys for some comments and help - all appreciated!
I have filled the tank up to full just two days ago (70 lte?) and after two days on way (20 miles highway test drive + 20 miles to/from my work...) I see that fuel indicator showing unusual loss of the fuel in the tank, and maybe bit confusing consumption. So I put my car on diagnostic software (VCDS) and there are no faults shown.
But more as for consumption I am confused about diesel loss... I have no idea how is it measured but lost nearly quarter of the tank just for 48 miles?
Do you see this OK?
