MEDIA-IN multimedia interface to charge phone?

Hi,
I always seem to have a trailing lead from the rear passenger cigarette lighter point to keep my phone charged when in the car, and I was idly looking in the front armrest of my B7 with RNS315 and noticed the standard USB socket.
The manual says it provides the 'standard' 5V USB charging connection but is intended for USB mass storage devices such as iphones etc.
So, what I would rather like to know is can I use it to simply charge my phone (Nexus 4)? And if so will it be a problem as I bluetooth the phone connection?
