B7 bonnet release cable

Cable broke the other day. Spent 3 hours in the rain getting the bonnet open, but managed it without breaking anything 
. Cable is in two parts and fortunately it’s the front section (easier to access) that is broken.
Bought a replacement cable from dealer, but they have changed the design so that it is no longer compatible with the original rear section that runs into the passenger compartment
. I don’t want to replace the rear section as it’s a b@gger to fit.
Does anyone know where I might get the correct cable? Possibly an independent who stocks new old stock...
The part number is 3AC 823 531 A.
