Engine light

Hi peepz
My engine lights keeps coming on for a day then goes off for a week then comes back on. The car drives normal nothing wrong with it. What could it be. Mines a 2011 2.0 tdi sport 170 saloon.
Dealer said its usually something electronic and they charge 60 quid to look at it. Any1 got a WAG lead in west midlands central birmingham i could meet to check what the fault is instead of paying them for 5 min work?
