B7 1.4 TSI BMT 160 has it a belt or chain cam?

Post by barcud » Sat Dec 09, 2017 4:52 pm

Hi,
I've had conflicting info about this, including from the dealer, so:
I want to know if my B7 1.4 TSI BMT 160 has a belt or chain cam.

Car was bought new in June 2014, built to order in May.
The engine code is CTHD, and the car 'variant' on the V5C is AACTHDX0.

I had thought that they had stopped using chain cam drive by then (the unpredictable poor chain link stampings problem).
I have tried to decode the VIN to see if that leads anywhere, but it confirms V5C as Type 3C.

I cannot find out how to decode the Variant (from the V5C). It is 24 characters long. 8 groups of 3? Any ideas?

Can anybody help? :???:

Your twin pump 1.4 TSI is chain not belt.

Thanks mickjane2 and Mindriot. :-bd
Good that I don't have to worry about a cambelt, but not so good that I may have to worry about a dicky chain. :D

Belts are easier to change. I read a bit about your engine, tbh I would get rid of it.

So far, 60k miles, 10k oil changes and Shell v-Power.
Hoping that and 5 year/90k mile warranty will be enough until next year.

But, yes, I read about the engine too but after I bought the car. :-q
