2.0tdi died after heavy acceleration and now won't start

My car has only done 37k miles it's a 2011 B7.
Yesterday I went to overtake up a hill on a dual carriageway. And as I changed from 2nd to 3rd and as I put my foot down on the accelerator I lost all engine power. I pulled over in the left lane, attempted to restart my car but it cranks but does not start as though it's starved of fuel.
