Non starting issue

Just for other members benefit I was experiencing the totally dead sound when key pushed in. Had started an hour before with extra pressure on brake (dsg) therefore thought sensor in brake or key slot.
RAC found no codes and hot wired starter to get going. On way to autoelectrian 'stop-start' worked therefore we thought battery was good enough despite early reading suggesting replacement.
Autoelectrician spent hours on it finding nil- when new battery applied- good as new!

Did this a year ago but worked after jump start- battery had obviously deteriated further.

Lots on net suggesting multiple possible causes- my advice change battery FIRST!
