Tuning/mod/tweaking options or route and advice

Ok hi all. I've got a 2.0l tdi 170bhp bluemotion sport (if I've remembered correctly). Now I've had the car a little while etc I'm thinking about tuning. I've had petrol cars in the past and know their tweets and pitfalls but not tdi's, although I've heard they respond well. Can anyone advise me, is it worth it? Where/What to start with and things to watch out for and suggested companies. Do insurance companies hit modified cars?

I've heard about ecu remaps, Chips, dpf removal, decat pipes.....

Are there and easyier or cheaper things to do to begin with?

Am I likely to cause any damage? Wreck the gearbox drive shafts etc.?

Any good people to recommend for doing the work in Suffolk area?
