B7 estate boot release problem (won't latch)

Hi looking for some advise on the boot release incase anyone has had a similar problem.

When I open the boot normally (ie with the button in the number plate recess) instead of it doing a single click as it releases it clicks repeatedly and quickly for 2-3seconds; but it releases the boot catch so you can open the boot.

If you then try and shut the boot again it won't latch. Pressing the button with the boot open does the same thing.

If you try and move the catch within the mechanism manually it would normally catch/latch in 2 positions, but most of the time it doesn't. To close and latch the boot I have to wiggle and push the catch repeatedly until I can feel the resistance of the first latch, then shut the boot.

Has anyone else had this or similar problem?
