Water damaged ECU?

Hi,
My 2011 passat 2.0 TDI BM decided to die on my the other day. The dash threw up parking brake error and ECM error. Once id scanned it is shown that there was no connection to the ECU and that there was a short to positive on the clutch switch. the clutch switch has been replaced and its still no good.
the garage said they ahve bypassed a relay with the ECU and the car is turning over now so they think its the ECU. on the ECUTesting website they say that water ingress on this model is common so it looks like the ECU is bust with that. Has anyone else seen this before?
