Whats wrong with my RNS510

The sat nav / map function on my RNS 510 seems to have stopped working and its asking for the map disk which I dont have. The radio and CD work and as I didnt have anything on the disk music wise i have no idea if that is affected
VCDS shows
Part No SW: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ HW: 1T0 035 680
Component: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ H04 ----
All the other modules are reading correctly is it dead or just having a bad day and being in need of some new maps if so why isnt the part and component information readable?
Any thoughts?
