Differences in MPG on 1.6 tdi

Hey, i've been lurking a little while but thought it was time to register.
I'm looking at the B7 passat 1.6 tdi sport saloon as a possible company car. If you look on honestjohn at the real MPG section (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/RealMpg/Res ... volkswagen) it shows the actual mileage posted on the site by users.
See below - data is in the format of | variant | official combined | real average | real range |
1.6 TDI BlueMotion 68.9 mpg 60 mpg 55–64.9 mpg
1.6 TDI BlueMotion Technology 65.7 mpg 50.7 mpg 46.4–56.2 mpg
Is the engine itself different between the Bluemotion and the Bluemotion technology variants?
I know these mpg figures may be suspect because it all depends on the size of the sample plus the type of driver who has submitted them, but there is an almost 10 mpg difference between the Bluemotion and the Bluemotion Tech versions.
Discuss?
