my new passat 140 tdi

Hi all,
had my passat (sport 140 saloon) 2 weeks now and other than a couple of niggles ( rattling dashboard and satnav doesn't turn down the volume when its trying to give directions) and i really like it other than the engine which completly underwhelms me.
I had an insignia sri with the 160 cdti lump for 3 months whilst waiting for delivery and it had much better 5th and 6th gear performance, (my passat is pretty poor at accelerating in top)
So what are my tuning options? I'd get a remap but I have heard you need to remove the ecu to do so? might try a tuning box but not heard many reviews on this engine ( the vauxhall boys love the dtuk units)
