Multiple errors popped up

Post by TheJase »

While on a 230 mile journey on Friday night, with about 60 miles to go, my Passat B7 Estate 2.0 TDi suddenly started displaying three different errors on the MFD, along with the corresponding warning indicators behind the dials:
  • Fault: Tyre Pressure Loss Indicat. curr not available.
  • Error: Start-Stop
  • Error: ABS/stabilisation control (ESC)
This all occurred after almost running out of fuel. My wife misjudged the distance to the next services and the range indicator reached zero with another 12 miles to go. I realise that there's probably quite a lot of miles left when the range reads zero, but I wasn't certain about this and didn't want to risk running out on a motorway late at night with our two young children in the car. I was driving in convoy with her, so we both pulled off the motorway and she stopped while I went off to find a petrol station and come back with a jerry can of fuel. This is probably all irrelevant, but I thought I'd mention it.

The errors appeared after setting off again following that little drama.

During the journey, we had a towbar mounted bike carrier attached with a lighting board plugged into the car. All lights were functional. After the errors occurred, we stopped at services and tried disconnecting and reconnecting the board, in case that had any bearing on the faults but it made no difference. We also checked the tyre pressures, which hadn't dropped noticeably from what they had been inflated to before our week away.

The bike carrier was removed when we got home and the car hasn't been driven for two days, but the errors were still showing when I switched on the ignition just before making this post.

It seems strange that three subsystems should start throwing errors simultaneously, so I thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of any possible reasons for it, before I take the car to a garage for expensive diagnostics.

I've had a look at fuse lists for the Passat B7, but couldn't see any single fuses that are responsible for all three subsystems.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
TheJase
