If it is anything like my current Volvo, the the lower ( fog lights ) will not come on at the same time as the main headlights. Side and fogs OK, Main and fogs not OK.

A- Dipped beam
B- High-Main beam with side/parking light
C- Fog light (providing you have them. Lesser models have dummies with no bulbs.)
D- DRLs

DRLs will come on with the ignition and turn off when the parking/side lights or headlights are turned on.

To turn the foglights on (if you have them) pull out the headlight switch to the first position when it is turned to either side or dipped beam. Foglights can't be turned on with the switch in Auto, (if you have Auto lights)

To Add to that, DRLs are switchable via the Settings menu in the MFD.

Foglights are also used for 'static cornering lights'. This is when one fog light comes on at low speeds in the direction that you are turning or indicating when the headlights are on dipped. They can also both come when reverse gear is selected when the headlights are on dipped. This is to give better side/front illumination when maneuvering.

Cool, Thank you!
It appears i have dummy lights - on closer inspection there's nothing in there
i have no settings for DRLs in the MFD :(
Are these all things that i can just add or will it require extra gubbins and wiring?

I have dummy fogs as well, and my DRLs come on when the lights on the switch is either set to 'off' (O) or Auto, if it is daylight

DRLs may have been turned off with VCDS or similar. It's a simple tick box to activate them again.

Hang on tho' Captain, according to your sig, you have a Sport, which should have fog lights. Odd question, but what colour are your roof rails?

oooo
my rails are silvery - not quite chrome :D

hang on... C is fogs? and D is DRLs?
I'm missing DRLs then... the outer units have a bulb but the inners are empty.

OK, I thought for a minute it might not be a Sport, but the roof rails confirm that.

Outers (C) is 100% fog lights. Dummy ones have the reflectors, but no hole for the bulb. Your headlight switch will have two fog light positions. Pull out one click for front, two clicks for front and rear.

Inners (D) are 100% DRLs on cars with halogen headlights. They are static cornering lights on cars with bi-xenons, but let's not let that confuse the issue. Is there a hole for a bulb in there? Just a thought, but a previous owner may have taken the bulbs out as some people refuse to accept DRLs. Doing this would normally throw up a bulb warning light on the dash, but to get around this, he may have just pulled the bulb holders out and hidden them up behind the bumper.

It's easy enough to take the lights out to check, there is one torx screw that fixes the grille/surround. Take that out and then pull at the grille harder than feels comfortable. You won't break it. You can then get to the bolts that hold the lights in.
