Emergency Key Blade

Post by jscpch » Tue Oct 30, 2018 4:16 pm

I have lost the emergency key blade which fits into the electronic ignition key for my B7 Passat.
Replacements are available on eBay but do these have to be coded in order for them to be used or are they just a particular fit for whatever they are used for?
I took mine out to reset the front passenger airbag switch in the glove compartment.

No coding needed. They are just a mechanical key for locking/unlocking the drivers door and switching the airbag.
2004 V6 TDI gone and replaced with a 2011 TDI Sport DSG which has gone too.

Thanks but now not sure if that's correct. The one I still have has a quite complicated design cut into the blade. Went to my local key cutting expert who told me they can only be obtained from VW as they are plastic and can only be laser cut on expensive equipment as a mechanical cutting machine would just melt the blade. Stands to reason as doubt if you can access a door lock just with a piece of plastic!

you originally asked if coding was needed, not how difficult they are to cut?
