Brake pad wear sensor

Post by nick66 » Sun Jun 17, 2018 10:49 am

Hi everyone, lve made a monumental willy up this morning, l was replacing the discs and pads on my B7, l started with the offside first and when l came to put the new pads in there was a brake sensor cable attached to it yet the one l took out didn't, l measured to ensure they were the same diameters and snipped the cable off (as l have done on cars in the past) however like a goon l didn't think to check both sets and now the nearside one should have the sensor cable !!! I have re ordered a new set but l need to replace the nearside disc and put the new pads in minus the cable until the new set arrives, question is l assume the dashboard warning light will then come on ? when l change the pads to the correct set will the light go out or will l need to go and pay to have it reset ?

Thanks in advance
Goon boy !

The light will only come on when the sensor eventually comes into contact with the brake disc as the pad gets low. Even unplugged, it will not illuminate a warning light as it has nothing to ground to.

Most of the vw stuff uses a twin wire system that illuminates the warning light when broken or unplugged.
Some French cars etc use the single wire that grounds out on a disc but I'm pretty sure the passat will not.
